The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris.

The meeting exchanged opinions and information on the current situation in the Republic of North Macedonia and in the Hellenic Republic.

The interlocutors concluded that the signing and implementation of the Prespa Agreement opened a new perspective in the relations between the two countries in all spheres of mutual interest. In this context, they agreed that there is improvement in the relations and that there are opportunities for development of cooperation between the regions and municipalities, especially by utilizing the European programs for support of the development.

President Pendarovski stressed the interest of the Republic of North Macedonia in promoting the overall bilateral cooperation with the Hellenic Republic, including deepening of economic cooperation, increasing trade exchange and developing infrastructure connectivity.

The President of North Macedonia said that his Cabinet remains open in support of civic initiatives that would promote relations between the two countries through the cooperation of citizens, organizations and businesses on both sides of the border.

Mayor Boutaris briefed on the ongoing cooperation between Thessalonica and Skopje in the field of culture, on the possibilities for cooperation on projects in the area of ​​protection of cultural heritage, especially the Jewish community, whose tragic fate is remembered by North Macedonia and Greece, on the protection of the environment, as well as tourist promotion of the two countries.

Mayor Boutaris congratulated President Pendarovski on his assuming of office and wished him success in the performance of his duties.
