The Republic of Macedonia will continue to strive for the promotion of the rights of the Roma community - President Ivanov meets with representatives of Roma political parties in the Republic of Macedonia

romi_4The President of the Republic of Macedonia, Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, on the eve of the International Roma Day, April 8th, met today with representatives of Roma political parties in the Republic of Macedonia.

President Ivanov congratulated April 8th, the International Roma Day, and said that this day affirms the need for greater support for the Roma population that is actively working on the challenges it faces. In this context, President Ivanov said that the Republic of Macedonia will continue to strive for the promotion of the rights of the Roma community in the Macedonian society.

The representatives of the Roma political parties said that they are greatly honored with the importance President Ivanov pays for the rights of the Roma community in Macedonia and added that the Roma, as an integral part of the Macedonian society, will continue to actively participate through their parties in the political life to further promote the position of Roma at central and local level.

The meeting stressed that the Republic of Macedonia within Europe is a leader in respecting the rights of the Roma community as an equal community with the other communities in Macedonia, according to their constitutionally guaranteed rights. Common conclusion is the need to intensify the activities of the priority areas of the National Action Plans 2016 - 2020 in order to more effectively implement the commitments to equality, development, integration and prosperity of the Roma community in the country.
