The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, held a bilateral meeting in Jerusalem today with the President of the State of Israel, Reuven Rivlin.
President Pendarovski, extending his gratitude for the invitation to participate in the Leadership Forum, noted that the Republic of North Macedonia, besides the honor, has an obligation to be represented at the highest level in Israel at the Forum on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27th and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.
President Pendarovski stressed that the two countries share the Holocaust tragedy that killed thousands of Jews from our country, which is an irreparable loss for us. The President underlined the role of the Jewish community in the Republic of North Macedonia, expressing confidence that it would continue to make its active contribution to the overall development of the country, as well as to fostering good relations between the two countries.
The President informed that since December 2019 the Republic of North Macedonia is an associate member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance and will pledge to become a full member in 2021.
President Pendarovski thanked for the support that the State of Israel has given to the Republic of North Macedonia in the past period, since our independence, adding that there are opportunities for intensifying the economic cooperation.
The two presidents exchanged information and opinions on the situation in the Balkans and the Middle East region. The meeting expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation between North Macedonia and Israel on bilateral and multilateral level.
President Pendarovski, today and tomorrow – January 22nd and 23rd, 2020, in Jerusalem, Israel, is participating in a Leadership Forum marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day-January 27th and the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi death camp Auschwitz.
