President Pendarovski receives the credentials of the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today the letters of credence of Jorn Gjelstad, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of North Macedonia, resident in Belgrade.

President Pendarovski said at the ceremony of presenting the credentials that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have been continuously building friendly and partnership relations and that the successful development of bilateral relations in many spheres of social life has been achieved. The President expressed expectation for intensification of the political dialogue at all levels, as well as for enrichment of the cooperation in the fields of economy, investment, ecology, tourism and other areas of mutual interest. “Soon, North Macedonia will officially become the 30th member of the NATO Alliance and I am confident that in the future it will represent an additional binding bridge between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Kingdom of Norway as partners and allies”, President Pendarovski said.

The President expressed his gratitude for the consistent support from friendly Norway, which is a strong promoter of the Euro-Atlantic integration processes and stressed that the Republic of North Macedonia remains committed to achieving its strategic priorities. “We are convinced that the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective is a guarantee of prosperity, stability and wellbeing in the Balkans. In this context, we highly appreciate the interest and presence of Norway not only here, but in the whole region”, President Pendarovski said in his speech.

Ambassador Gjelstad said that the bilateral relations are excellent and continue to develop on a very solid basis of historical friendship between the two countries and stressed that progress had been made in the field of economy. Pointing to the joint deployment in the ISAF as an important element for further strengthening of the excellent bilateral relations, he assessed that defense reforms are high on the common agenda of the two countries. “Norway is looking forward to welcoming North Macedonia as the 30th NATO member”, the newly appointed ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway said.

Ambassador Gjelstad stressed that over the past 19 years, Norway has provided more than EUR 125 million in assistance to North Macedonia and it will continue to support the country’s Euro-Atlantic integration efforts through joint programs within key social sectors.

President Pendarovski wished the newly appointed Ambassador good health much and success in the performance of his responsible diplomatic duty.
