The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, supports the initiative of several political parties, submitted in the past period to the President’s Cabinet, on the reform of the electoral model through amendments to the Electoral Code, in order to create a proportional election model with open candidate lists and to reduce the number of electoral units on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia.

President Pendarovski calls on political parties, both from the government and the opposition, to consider the possibility of reforming the electoral model by amending the Electoral Code and by reaching a political consensus to agree on a proportional electoral model with open lists, where citizens will have the opportunity to choose not only political parties, but also individual candidates.

As foreseen in the election program, President Pendarovski believes that in the Republic of North Macedonia there should be a smaller number of constituencies, without a threshold or a minimum threshold of needed votes, in function of expanding the political representation in the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia.

President Pendarovski believes that democratic development, equality, the rule of law and the right to free and fair elections are an important factor for the prosperity of the Republic of North Macedonia.
