Today, President Stevo Pendarovski received the credentials of Martin Pamer, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the Republic of North Macedonia.
In his address at the ceremony of presentation of the credentials, President Pendarovski emphasized that the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Austria have been building friendly and partnership relations for three decades and that successful development of bilateral relations and cooperation in almost all spheres of mutual interest has been achieved.
The President expressed his satisfaction with the strong and unequivocal support of Austria in the context of our most important foreign policy priority – becoming a fully-fledged member of the European Union, for the support in the current EU screening process, as well as for the steps we are taking to fulfil the obligations undertaken.
Stating that the Republic of Austria is one of the most important economic and trade partners, as well as the number one foreign investor in our country, President Pendarovski pointed out that the presence of numerous Austrian companies on the market in North Macedonia and frequent business contacts, as well as the activities of the Trade Department at the Austrian embassy in Skopje further contribute to bringing our countries and peoples together.
In his address, the President also expressed satisfaction with the support of the Republic of Austria regarding our chairmanship with the OSCE, which is taking place in a period of very complex geopolitical circumstances and security risks for the wider region, at the time of Russian military aggression against sovereign Ukraine.
The President expressed hope that during the mandate of the newly appointed Austrian ambassador, we will witness an active and fruitful agenda in the direction of developing mutual relations in all spheres of bilateral cooperation.
In his address, the newly appointed ambassador of Austria, Martin Pamer, pointed to the numerous high-level bilateral visits in the past years as a clear expression of the excellent and cordial relations between the two countries in many areas, as well as a confirmation of common values and strategic interests. Ambassador Pamer emphasized that Austria was and remains firmly determined for active, continuous and strong support of North Macedonia on its European path full of challenges and expressed confidence that the next necessary steps will be successfully achieved, like all others before.
The Austrian ambassador said that since the independence, and especially in the last few years, North Macedonia has made many important compromises, citing the Ohrid Framework Agreement, the Friendship Agreement with Bulgaria and the Prespa Agreement with Greece. He pointed out that in Austria they are aware of these bold steps and expressed confidence that all political stakeholders in the country will continue to maintain this culture of compromise.
Ambassador Pamer emphasized that our young people deserve to become part of the European Union and experience the benefits and potential that it offers and added that the expansion and rapid accession of North Macedonia to the European Union is of common interest and is a matter of conviction.
The newly appointed Austrian ambassador also emphasized the close economic relations between the two countries and emphasized the excellent position of Austrian companies in North Macedonia.
President Pendarovski wished Ambassador Pamer much success and good health in the performance of his responsible duty.
