President Stevo Pendarovski received today the letters of credence of Niklas Lindqvist, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Finland to the Republic of North Macedonia, resident in Belgrade.
In his address at the ceremony of presenting the credentials, President Pendarovski expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations and successful cooperation between the two countries, which is developing in the spirit of traditional friendship and partnership, and pointed out that there is untapped potential and space for further deepening of cooperation, especially in the domain of economy and investments. President Pendarovski expressed his gratitude for the principled and consistent support of the Republic of Finland for the need to urgently wrap-up the European future of North Macedonia. He said that within the framework of the rich bilateral framework of cooperation, we remain committed to maintaining strong partnership relations within the framework of NATO, while welcoming the membership of Finland as the 31st NATO member. The President also congratulated Finland on its candidacy for the future chairmanship of the OSCE in 2025 and expressed readiness to share the experiences of our chairmanship.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Finland, Niklas Lindqvist, in his address, expressed his commitment to the further deepening and expanding of the relations between the two countries and announced the holding of a Nordic event in Skopje on December 13 to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Finnish Ambassador pointed out that North Macedonia’s support for Finland’s application for membership in NATO was highly appreciated and expressed hope for finding new ways of cooperation in this sector, now that both countries are members of the Alliance. Ambassador Lindqvist, emphasizing that Finland is a strong supporter of EU enlargement, said that with the new momentum in enlargement and the proposal for a Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, he hopes for real progress on the EU accession path of all candidate countries, including North Macedonia.
President Pendarovski wished the Finnish Ambassador Niklas Lindqvist a successful performance of his significant, noble and responsible office and expressed hope that his active engagement will leave a lasting mark in the upgrading of friendly relations and cooperation.
