President Stevo Pendarovski, as part of his participation in the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations, met in New York with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the overall activities of the Republic of North Macedonia within the United Nations, as well as on the role of the organization in dealing with global issues.
In this context, Secretary General Guterres acknowledged the solidarity shown by the Republic of North Macedonia by engaging in global humanitarian action for the temporary acceptance of Afghan citizens.
The importance of the Prespa Agreement, signed under the auspices of the United Nations, was emphasized at the meeting, as an example that even the most complex open issues can be resolved if there is political will and strong leadership.
The two interlocutors exchanged views and information on the current situation regarding the European perspective of the country, including the open issue with the Republic of Bulgaria. The interlocutors concluded that the unblocking of the European integration process is in the interest of stability and prosperity of the region and of Europe as a whole.
