Briefing on Army Combat Readiness in 2022

The President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Stevo Pendarovski, attended a briefing today at the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff on the combat readiness of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia in 2022.

At the briefing, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Slavjanka Petrovska, and the generals in the Army, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant-Colonel General Vasko Gjurcinovski, informed about the degree of implementation of the plans and tasks of the Army during 2022 and presented the situation in the areas that have impact on the combat readiness of the Army in the current year.

President Pendarovski was informed of the implementation level in the functional areas: personnel, training and exercises, equipment and infrastructure, operations, military planning and force structure, modernization and equipping, budget and financing.

At the briefing, President Pendarovski said that in 2022 the members of the Army proved their professionalism, dedication and readiness. In the year when we marked the 30th anniversary of its formation, President Pendarovski said, the Army once again justified the high trust it has among the Macedonian citizens. In addition, President Pendarovski pointed out that the implementation of the large-scale military exercise “Quick Response 22” at the Krivolak military training ground demonstrated the capacity of the Army to contribute to the collective defense, safety and security of NATO, in a time of challenges after the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

President Pendarovski reaffirmed his commitment to further investing in the modernization and equipping of the Army and achieving the set goal of allocating 2% of GDP to defense.

The briefing is a regular annual obligation of the Chief of the General Staff to the Supreme Commander.
