President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, as part of her official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, met today in Baku with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Sahiba Gafarova, and Prime Minister Ali Asadov.
At the meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, views were exchanged on the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, including cooperation at the parliamentary level.
Referring to her previous engagement as a member of the Assembly, President Siljanovska-Davkova stressed the importance of further strengthening of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, which is carried out through the Parliamentary Group of the Assembly for Cooperation with the National Assembly of Azerbaijan.
The interlocutors exchanged opinions and information on the work of the two parliaments, as well as the representation of women MPs.
The President stressed that the official visit to Azerbaijan, which takes place on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, will contribute to the advancement of cooperation. She pointed to the potential for increasing economic cooperation, trade, implementation of infrastructure projects, as well as to the commitment of the Macedonian side to diversifying energy sources.
She also pointed to the investment opportunities that the country offers, with its geographical location, qualified workforce and wide network of free trade agreements.
She also expressed expectations for implementation of specific initiatives in several areas, such as: social protection, education and science, environment, tourism and transport.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Gafarova, recognizing the efforts of President Siljanovska-Davkova for cultural diplomacy, emphasized that the official visit and the opportunity to expand contacts will contribute to the intensification of the overall cooperation between the two countries. She expressed her expectation for a visit of the Speaker of the Macedonian Parliament to Azerbaijan.
At the meeting with Prime Minister Asadov, satisfaction was expressed with the realization of the official visit.
The President assessed that relations with Azerbaijan are at an excellent level, free from any unresolved political issues and expressed confidence in their further strengthening following the official visit.
In this regard, Prime Minister Asadov, assessing the visit as successful, indicated that the program and the meetings held during the visit are a good sign for the further development of bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed his readiness to promote them.
At both meetings, President Siljanovska-Davkova was briefed on the situation in the Caucasus region and Azerbaijan’s positions on these issues. The situation in the context of the war in Ukraine was also discussed.
The meetings with the Speaker of the National Assembly Gafarova and Prime Minister Asadov concluded the official part of President Siljanovska-Davkova’s visit to Azerbaijan.
Tomorrow, in Baku, the President will participate in the XII Global Baku Forum, titled “Rethinking the World Order: Turning Challenges into Opportunities”, which will be held from 13 to 15 March, organized by the Nizami Ganjavi International Center.
