President Stevo Pendarovski, marking 22 November – the Day of the Albanian Alphabet, sent a congratulation message to the members of the Albanian ethnic community in the Republic of North Macedonia.
Respected fellow Albanians,
Today we celebrate a particularly important holiday for the Albanian people – November 22, the Day of the Albanian Alphabet. 115 years ago, in our Bitola, the unification of the Albanian alphabet took place as a key step for the codification of the Albanian language, which is undoubtedly one of the most significant pillars of the cultural and spiritual identity of the Albanians.
At the beginning of the 20th century in the then Ottoman Empire, the most prominent Albanian intellectuals from all over the world gathered at a congress that resulted in the historic decision to adopt the Albanian alphabet. The fruits of this crucial political and cultural act are enjoyed by all Albanians wherever they are. We are proud that today the Albanian community is an inseparable part of the multicultural and multi-ethnic Republic of North Macedonia.
Extending our most sincere wishes that you spend the holiday in peace, health, joy and well-being, may we reiterate the common convictions of solidarity and equality, as key to the prosperity of our common homeland.
Congratulation of November 22.
