The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, sent a congratulation message on the occasion of the celebration of May 24, the Day of the Slavic Enlighteners, Cyril and Methodius.
Dear fellow citizens,
Let me congratulate you on May 24, the Day of the Slavic
Enlighteners St. Cyril and Methodius. This great holiday dedicated to the Holy
Brothers Cyril and Methodius, who opened the path of the Slavic nations to
literacy and spirituality with their deeds, celebrates the foundation of the
Macedonian linguistic, cultural and spiritual being as an equal nation in the
family of the Slavic nations.
The lighthouses of Slavic civilization and literacy and the protectors of Europe, Ss. Cyril and Methodius struggled for the right to use the Old Slavic language in the liturgy, proving that there are no small and meaningless languages. The vision and values they promoted, even after more than ten centuries, are topical and relevant even today.
Congratulating you the great holiday, I would like to remind that the works and teachings left by the Holy Brothers oblige us to strive for equality and to build a society with equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender, religion, ethnicity or any other affiliation. A society in which education and culture are essential and right to every citizen. Congratulations on May 24, the Day of the Slavic Enlighteners Ss. Cyril and Methodius!
