President Pendarovski: Leadership requires courage, decision-making, but also responsibility

19 May 2021 | Press Releases

President Stevo Pendarovski participated today in a debate on “Leadership in Politics, Business and Sports: Is There a Common Denominator?”, organized by the Presidential Center for Political Education, with the support of the partner foundation MK2025.

Speaking about the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, President Pendarovski recalled the period when we were the only country in Europe with a dissolved Assembly and the President’s Cabinet was the only functional institution. In those moments, he pointed out, many people must be talked to and a decision made.

“Making hasty decisions is a crucial mistake. You have to talk to a lot of people, have the courage to make decisions and take responsibility. Those who criticize you the most with arguments should be listened to”, President Pendarovski said, emphasizing that there are lessons to be learned from this period. Within the Presidential Center for Political Education, several initiatives have been made to overcome certain problems in the functioning of the system.

“We have excellent laws in many areas, but poor enforcement. A leader is not a man who is guided solely by ratings. A poll-driven politician is not a leader. I am looking forward to the day when young people will not care which political party is in power, or who is the President of the country. The day when the system simply functions flawlessly, no matter who is in power”, President Pendarovski said.

The president said he respected the leaders whose actions speak of their personality. He told the youth to make own decisions, not to be influenced by highly paid political propaganda. Today’s debate is part of the leadership, business and entrepreneurship training titled “Project LEADER”, organized by MK2025 in cooperation with the “Ivey Business School” from Canada, on an annual basis.
