President Stevo Pendarovski met today in Ohrid with Gabriel Escobar, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of the United States of America.
The interlocutors agreed that the bilateral relations are taking place with excellent dynamics, as a confirmation of the long-term Macedonian-American partnership and friendship.
Regarding the aspirations for membership in the European Union, President Pendarovski informed about the progress of the screening process and the next steps that should be taken for the European integration process.
The meeting also discussed the current situation in the region, in light of the high-level meeting of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, in which the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, are participating, and which is being held in Ohrid under the auspices of the European Union.
In that direction, President Pendarovski said that holding the negotiations in Ohrid is a recognition for our country, which in the past years made several compromises to maintain long-term stability, European and Euro-Atlantic integration, demonstrating that it can function as a true multi-ethnic democracy. He added that the issue of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue is an extremely important regional issue, the solution of which can help for permanent stabilization of the region and its faster European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
