Under the auspices of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, today in Galichnik, the initiative of the Galichnik Local Community for preservation, restoration and sustainable development of one of the most recognizable symbols of Macedonian cultural identity and tradition was promoted.
Before the representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and the business sector, as well as in the presence of the Mayor of the Municipality of Mavrovo and Rostuse, Oner Jakuposki, representatives of the Galichnik Local Community, headed by President Ognen Karagjozovski, an initiative for preservation, promotion and utilization of facilities of exceptional historical, cultural and social significance for Galichnik was presented.
The initiative includes activities for protection and revitalization of Villa “Dosta”, the Cultural Center, the Administrative Building and the Galichka Furna.
The participants of the event, in addition to the facilities covered by the initiative, also visited several landmarks in Galichnik, such as the traditional Galichnik house “Filipovska”, the church “Ss. Peter and Paul”, where they heard the story of the Galichnik Wedding being one of the most recognizable cultural manifestations, the house of Gjorgija Pulevski and the church of “St. Petka”.
In her address to the attendees, Siljanovska-Davkova said that Galichnik is much more than an open-air museum, because its heritage lives in the stone houses, churches, songs, customs and in the memories of the generations that constantly return. For her, every effort invested in Galichnik is an investment in the common cultural heritage and in the future of the country.
Welcoming the initiative of the Galichnik Local Community, she called for a broader partnership between state institutions, local government, the business community, the diaspora and all supporters of cultural heritage to ensure long-term protection and development of Galichnik.
Siljanovska-Davkova said that preserving Galichnik does not only mean caring for the past, but also creating an inspiring foundation for the future, showing that tradition and progress can successfully walk together. At the event, the Galichnik Local Community awarded special recognition to President Siljanovska-Davkova for her patronage, support and personal contribution to the affirmation of Galichnik and the Galichnik Wedding, as well as for supporting initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural heritage and development of Galichnik.
