President Stevo Pendarovski received today representatives of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the focus group who are working on the draft of the new National Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2023-2030.
GIZ representatives and the focus group informed President Pendarovski about the drafting process of the new National Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2023-2030, which aims to bring North Macedonia closer to the principles stipulated in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
President Pendarovski, highlighting the importance of adopting the Strategy, thanked GIZ for its support and assistance in its preparation and expressed the expectation that it will contribute to improving the position of persons with disabilities. This Strategy, President Pendarovski pointed out, is of great importance for North Macedonia in the context of the obligations that the state has undertaken with the ratification of the Convention, and it is especially significant that people with disabilities are directly involved in the development of the Strategy.
The Strategy is drafted within the framework of the project “Social Rights for Vulnerable Groups in the Western Balkans” implemented by GIZ, and includes representatives from 11 relevant ministries, organizations of persons with disabilities and civil society organizations that represent their rights, practitioners who work on a daily basis with the specific issues and activists.
