President Stevo Pendarovski, as part of his working visit to the Kingdom of Sweden, met today in Malmo with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden, Stefan Lofven, who also hosted the International Forum “REMEMBER – REACT”.
The interlocutors at the meeting discussed the expected start of negotiations for membership of our country in the European Union. Expressing gratitude for Sweden’s continued and consistent support for our European integration, President Pendarovski stressed the country’s commitment to the reform process, especially in the area of the rule of law, and reiterated that further delay in the enlargement process would have long-term negative consequences for the development and stability of the region. In that regard, President Pendarovski expressed expectation for continued Swedish support for our Euro integration path.
President Pendarovski said that North Macedonia highly appreciates Sweden’s continued support for strengthening the capacity of the Macedonian institutions, especially in the areas of democracy, rule of law and environmental protection.
At the same time, President Pendarovski expressed gratitude for the support that our country receives through the programs of the Swedish International Cooperation and Development Agency (SIDA) in several areas.
At the meeting, President Pendarovski and Prime Minister Lofven also discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and it was assessed that the Republic of North Macedonia and the Kingdom of Sweden are committed to further intensifying the political dialogue.
