President Stevo Pendarovski sent a message on the occasion of May 12 – International Nurses Day:
“The pandemic has shown the chronic shortcomings of our healthcare system, including inadequate working conditions and insufficient healthcare staff.
But, at the same time, this greatest health crisis of our time has reaffirmed the commitment and dedication of health professionals, including nurses. They carried, and still carry, the greatest burden of the pandemic. Faced with stress and exhausted from the day and night shifts, disproportionately exposed to risk of infection, nurses are the real heroes of our time who continue to take care of people’s health and lives on a daily basis.
On May 12 – International Nurses Day, we remember your colleagues who lost their lives in the fight against the virus. Fully faithful to the humane goal – Violeta Kacarska, Diana Makosevic Dimoska, Elica Andreeska, Irena Dojcinoska Milosevska, Naside Emini and Mirlinda Alimi laid down their lives to save other lives. Their great and precious sacrifice obliges us to remember them with gratitude and to take their solidarity as an example. But also to invest in improving the position of nurses in North Macedonia. Because, only in this way, we will contribute to the improvement of the health care of all citizens and of the entire Macedonian society.
Happy International Nurses Day!”
