President Stevo Pendarovski and his wife Elizabeta Gjorgievska received today activists for the rights of persons with disabilities from the “MENUVAME” coalition.
The persons with disabilities and the parents of children with disabilities at the meeting presented their demands for improvement of their overall situation. The few, as they pointed out, are priority requests: to increase the fee they receive as a disability allowance and as a special child allowance, to establish a register for people with disabilities and to open more day care centers and rehabilitation centers. In that way, the representatives from the “MENUVAME” coalition said, people with disabilities will be guaranteed an adequate standard of living.
The activists also expressed their commitment to the exercise of the rights to equality, a dignified life and active involvement in the overall economic, cultural and social life. These rights, as stressed by “MENUVAME” are guaranteed to them in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which was ratified by the state 10 years ago but its implementation is almost not initiated yet.
President Pendarovski and his wife Gjorgievska expressed full support for the demands of the representatives of the “MENUVAME” coalition. “It is unacceptable for you to continue to be marginalized and underprivileged”, President Pendarovski said. In this regard, President Pendarovski stressed that, in accordance with the competencies, he will continuously strive to improve the position of persons with disabilities and their families.
