President Stevo Pendarovski, on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Fascism and Europe Day, sent the following message:
“Today we see that the victory of freedom, human rights, democracy and equality is threatened at a time when we believed it was completely won. Today, amid the new bloodshed, we need to recollect more than ever the lessons of the past, and May 9 is one of those dates – foundation of real civilization values.
The day of victory over fascism is a tribute to the millions of lives lost in the struggle against the occupier, a day when we proudly remind ourselves that we have been, are and will remain on the right side of history.
Europe Day, which celebrates the idea of lasting peace and unity on the continent, is yet another reminder of the key value of the road to European unification of diversity. Only with dignity, with respect for the right to self-determination can we speak of a united Europe.
Victory over fascism is also a victory for Europe.”
