President Stevo Pendarovski received today Michael Roth, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag.
The meeting discussed the bilateral relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Federal Republic of Germany, which are characterized by friendship, filled with trust and mutual respect and intense political dialogue.
President Pendarovski said that Germany, which is the driving force of the European Union in the Western Balkans, is one of our closest allies and most reliable partners in the past 30 years and expressed gratitude that the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia is a high priority on the foreign policy agenda of the German government led by Chancellor Scholz.
The meeting also discussed the opening of EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania, where it was pointed out that they are of essential importance in the current geopolitical and security circumstances and in dealing with the effects of Russian aggression in Ukraine.
The interlocutors exchanged opinions and information about Germany’s intention to revive the Berlin Process in the second half of 2022, with President Pendarovski emphasizing that the Berlin Process should not be treated as a substitute for the EU accession process and added that for the Republic of North Macedonia there is no other alternative than full membership in the European Union.
