Module I of the 2023 School of Policies at the Presidential Center for Political Education is held this weekend in Tetovo, which is being implemented in cooperation with the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.

Dr. Aleksandar Lj. Spasov, President of the Program Council of the Presidential Center for Political Education, Adviser to President Pendarovski on legal issues and associate professor at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law, UKIM, and Dr. Aleksandar Spasenovski, associate professor at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law, UKIM, spoke today on: “Mainstream parties crisis and the challenges for contemporary social democracy and contemporary political conservatism”.

The full-time professor at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law, UKIM, Dr. Boban Misoski, addressed the topic “The rule of law, independence of the judiciary, fight against corruption and protection of human rights as a basis for European Union membership negotiations”. The former Minister of Justice and full-time professor at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law, UKIM, Dr. Renata Treneska-Deskoska, gave a lecture on “Fair electoral process – basis of democracy”, and Ms. Mirjana Lazarova Trajkovska, Judge in the Supreme Court and former Judge in the European Court of Human Rights, shared her experiences on “The impact of the judgments of the European Court on Human Rights over democratic processes”.

During yesterday, on the first day of Module I of the 2023 School of Policies, introductory speeches were given by prof. Dr. Aleksandar Lj. Spasov and Ms. Donna Kosturanova, Director of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy in the country, and representatives of the Alumni of the School of Policies.

Tomorrow, in the final part of Module I, the full-time professor at the “Iustinianus Primus” Faculty of Law, UKIM, Dr. Nenad Markovic, will address the topic “Political culture and authoritarian tendencies in Macedonian society”, while Ms. Iskra Geshoska, Adviser to President Pendarovski for issues in the field of culture and Dr. Artan Sadiku, researcher, theorist and activist will share their insights on “Public policies and forms of effective political representation through citizen participation”.

The School of Policies is organized in cooperation with the offices of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the International Republican Institute (IRI), the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), the Westminster Foundation for Democracy, the “MK2025” Foundation, the Regional Youth Cooperation Office -RYCO and the Metamorphosis Foundation.
