Pendarovski-Erdogan: Solidarity and alliance in dealing with coronavirus

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, had a telephone conversation today with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the conversation, President Pendarovski, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia and on his personal behalf, thanked President Erdogan for the medical equipment, in suits, masks and tests that arrived from Turkey, adding that the alliance and solidarity between countries are important in these difficult days when we are globally dealing with the COVID-19 epidemic.

At the same time, President Pendarovski expressed solidarity and support for Turkey in its efforts to tackle COVID-19, given that Turkey is among the ten most affected countries with nearly 40,000 infected and more than 800 victims. In this context, he expressed condolences for the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to COVID-19 patients.

Regarding the situation in the country in dealing with the COVID-19 epidemic and its consequences, President Pendarovski informed President Erdogan that the situation is stable, among other things, due to the fact that North Macedonia was among the first countries in the region to deal with the pandemic. In this context, President Pendarovski added that the country is preparing for the challenges that the economy is expected to face after the end of the pandemic, emphasizing the importance of the strong economic ties between the two countries.

The two presidents expressed satisfaction with the excellent bilateral relations, and President Pendarovski thanked President Erdogan for Turkey’s long-term and significant support for achieving one of our strategic goals – NATO membership, where the proven partnership will continue in a new context between the two members of the Alliance.
