Pendarovski-Meta: Regional cooperation is needed in dealing with the COVID-19 crisis

14 April 2020 | Press Releases

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, had a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Albania, Ilir Meta.

During the conversation, the two presidents exchanged information on the current situation in both countries, in the context of dealing with the consequences of the spread of COVID-19.

President Pendarovski informed about the measures that the competent institutions in the country are taking in dealing with the epidemic and the assessments for the future development of the situation. The President stressed that the focus of the countries, in addition to dealing with the consequences on the healthcare system, should be focused on dealing with the consequences on the economic and social plan.

Having in mind the recent confirmation of the European Union member states of the readiness of North Macedonia and Albania to start accession negotiations, and after the cancellation of the EU-Western Balkans Summit to be held on 7 May in Zagreb, due to the situation with the spread of COVID-19, President Pendarovski expressed expectation that the European Union will be able to find modalities for moving the process ahead, in the interest of both countries and the Union itself.

The interlocutors expressed readiness to exchange experiences, coordination and support where necessary, in the spirit of solidarity and regional cooperation in dealing with the epidemic, as well as in addressing the health and socio-economic effects caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

President Meta congratulated President Pendarovski and all citizens on joining NATO.
