President Stevo Pendarovski received today the letters of credence by Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis, newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Republic of North Macedonia, resident in Sofia.
As part of the “Open Cabinet” activity, the ceremony of presenting the letters of credence was followed live via video platform by students from the master studies in International Law and Relations and EU Acquis – Law, Political Science and Public Relations from the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus”, Skopje.
Welcoming the Brazilian Ambassador to our country, President Pendarovski in his address at the ceremony stressed that despite the geographical distance of the two friendly countries, there is a common desire and potential for developing mutual relations.
“The opening of our Embassy in Brasilia in 2016, clearly showed the sincere desire and serious interest of our country to deepen relations and promote overall cooperation with the Federative Republic of Brazil”, President Pendarovski said.
Expressing satisfaction with the cooperation between the two countries within the international organizations, President Pendarovski said that the Republic of North Macedonia gives high priority to the work of international organizations and is a strong supporter of effective multilateralism, especially important for the current period when we face the terrible consequences of the Covid-19pandemic. He expressed expectation that in the coming period the bilateral political dialogue will be intensified with a focus on the unused space in the field of economy and investments.
“In terms of foreign policy, although the Republic of North Macedonia is strongly committed to meeting the strategic priorities, to the consistent implementation of obligations within the already attained NATO membership, as well as to the commitments for future membership in the European Union as a responsible member of the international community, we attach importance to the relations with all countries, for the good of our peoples, ensuring and strengthening world peace, as well as sustainable development and economic prosperity”, the President said.
In her address, the newly appointed Brazilian Ambassador Maria Edileuza Fontenele Reis congratulated North Macedonia on the efficient and adequate response to the Covid-19 pandemic and underlined that Brazil and North Macedonia remain united in the fight against the health crisis. Congratulating on joining NATO, Ambassador Maria Edileuza Fontanele Reis said that Brazil, as a strategic partner of the EU, looks forward to a successful completion of the process leading to full EU membership. She stressed that Brazil and North Macedonia share common values, especially faith in diplomacy, peaceful dispute resolution and respect for the rule of law.
“North Macedonia has proved to the world that diplomacy is the best tool for resolving disputes and that dialogue and mutual understanding can lead to a rewarding path of prosperity, peace and human development”, the Brazilian Ambassador said at the ceremony.
The Ambassador of Brazil underlined that she is committed to stimulating the tourist and cultural relations between Brazil and North Macedonia.
“I am determined to work tirelessly with local authorities and various segments of Macedonian society to find ways to increase bilateral trade and identify investment opportunities between our countries”, the Brazilian Ambassador said.
President Pendarovski wished the newly appointed Ambassador of Brazil success in carrying out her responsible mission and expressed confidence that she will enjoy our full cooperation and assistance in performing her diplomatic duties.
