President Pendarovski has telephone call with the Italian President Mattarella

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, had a telephone conversation with the President of the Italian Republic of, Sergio Mattarella.

President Pendarovski, on behalf of the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia and on his personal behalf, expressed his condolences to President Mattarella and the citizens of the Italian Republic for the large number of casualties and expressed solidarity with the country, which is among the hardest-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The presidents exchanged information on the situation in the two countries, in the context of dealing with the consequences of the pandemic.
President Pendarovski briefed President Mattarella on the measures and actions taken by state authorities to deal with the crisis.

In a telephone conversation, President Pendarovski stressed the need for a comprehensive European response to tackling the effects of the crisis, which, in addition to preventing the spread of the virus and providing medical and protective equipment, should also focus on supporting the economy, business and jobs.

President Pendarovski expressed confidence that through mutual solidarity and cooperation, European countries will be able to overcome the consequences caused by the spread of COVID-19.

President Mattarella congratulated on the NATO membership of the Republic of North Macedonia and the decision to open accession negotiations for membership in the European Union. In the telephone conversation, President Pendarovski thanked Italy for its consistent support for the European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of North Macedonia.
