President Stevo Pendarovski received today the President of the Commission for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination, Vesna Bendevska, and members of the Commission.
At the meeting, the representatives of the Commission informed President Pendarovski about their current work, the actions taken so far on the submitted complaints, the promotion of human rights and the elimination of all types of discrimination.
President Pendarovski stressed the importance of the work of the Commission in the direction of prevention and protection against discrimination, in function of the observation of human rights and freedoms. He added that it is necessary to use the mechanisms offered by the Law on Prevention and Protection against Discrimination, which provides a broader basis for prevention and protection of citizens. He welcomed the efforts of the Commission for raising public awareness, informing and educating the citizens about the types of discrimination they face, as well as the support offered by the Commission for Prevention and Protection against Discrimination.
The representatives of the Commission informed President Pendarovski about the current challenges in their work, the need to ensure greater financial independence of the institution and the need for staff equipping.
