President Pendarovski meets with MEPs Schieder, Kyuchyuk and Walsmann and EU Ambassador Zbogar

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today the MEPs Andreas Schieder, Ilhan Kyuchyuk and Marion Walsmann, co-chairs of the “Jean Monnet” dialogue, which will be held today and tomorrow in the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia. The Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, Ambassador Samuel Zbogar, also attended the meeting.

President Pendarovski stressed at the meeting that our country highly appreciates the continued principled support of the European Parliament and its commitment to the enlargement process. President Pendarovski emphasized the contribution of MEP Kyuchyuk as Permanent Rapporteur for North Macedonia and MEPs Schieder and Walsmann, who chairs the Delegation in the EU-North Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee, in view of the country’s progress in the EU integration process.

The meeting exchanged views and information on the political situation in the country, the ongoing reform process in the context of the EU integration, as well as on the current political situation in the Union.

The meeting confirmed the importance of a positive outcome of the talks within the framework of the “Jean Monnet” dialogue between the leaders of the country’s parliamentary parties.

President Pendarovski told the MEPs that membership in the European Union remains a strategic goal of the Republic of North Macedonia and reiterated the expectation that the new methodology for conducting accession negotiations would be adopted at the March 2020 European Council meeting. At the same time, President Pendarovski said he hoped that during the Croatian presidency a date would be set for the country to open the accession negotiations with the EU.
