President Pendarovski meets with “Polio Plus” representatives

5 February 2021 | Press Releases

President Stevo Pendarovski received today representatives of the civil society organization “Polio Plus – Movement against Disability”.

The interlocutors discussed possible joint projects as part of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the President’s Cabinet with the association. President Pendarovski stressed that the Memorandum will enhance the protection and promotion of their rights.

“For real inclusion of people with disabilities in social life, public awareness of the community must be constantly raised. You are equal citizens and it is our obligation to do everything in our power to provide equal conditions and full social integration”, President Pendarovski said at the meeting with the representatives of “Polio Plus”.

The “Polio Plus” representatives stressed that although our country ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2011, the provisions of the document are not implemented in practice.

One of the biggest challenges, as they pointed out, remains accessibility to facilities. They believe that the involvement of people with disabilities in the adoption of strategic documents and laws is needed, as well as greater institutional support.

In this regard, as President Pendarovski said, a greater contribution is needed for the measures and recommendations provided by the Convention to be implemented with the desired dynamics.
