President Stevo Pendarovski received today Latifa Shikovska, Member of Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Nezdet Mustafa, President of the United Party for Roma Equality – OPER, and Zoran Dimov and Shenaj Osmanov, representatives of the Advocacy Network for Permanent and Systematic Solutions for the integration of the Roma, who asked to meet with President Pendarovski to acquaint him with the situation related to the Roma community.
The current challenges for the integration of the Roma community in the social processes were discussed at the meeting, as well as the priority activities for improving the overall situation of the Roma in the country.
The interlocutors briefed President Pendarovski on the ongoing processes in the country related to registering undocumented persons, improving housing in Roma settlements, increasing employment opportunities, as well as advocating for permanent systematic solutions aimed at faster inclusion and integration of the Roma in the country.
Congratulating the International Roma Day, President Pendarovski stressed that the Roma community, which is an inseparable part of our multicultural society together with all other nations in the country, contributes to building and preserving a common homeland. In order to improve the integration of the Roma in our society, President Pendarovski expressed support for joint engagement of all stakeholders in the country guided by the principle of non-discrimination, equality and the rule of law.
