President Stevo Pendarovski received today Sir Stuart Peach, Special Envoy of the United Kingdom to the Western Balkans.
President Pendarovski expressed satisfaction with the visit of Special Envoy Peach shortly after his appointment in December 2021. The visit, as the President assessed, is a confirmation of the United Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining stability and prosperity in the region.
The interlocutors exchanged views and information on the current situation in the country and the region, as well as opportunities for cooperation with the United Kingdom on topics of common interest related to stability and security, as well as strengthening institutions in the fight against organized crime and high corruption.
The issues related to the membership of the Republic of North Macedonia in the European Union and the current dialogue with the Republic of Bulgaria were also discussed at the meeting. President Pendarovski briefed Sir Stuart Peach on the progress of the dialogue between the two countries. In that context, President Pendarovski thanked the United Kingdom for its interest and support for the Macedonian-Bulgarian dialogue and underlined that overcoming the blockade to start accession negotiations with the European Union would bring additional predictability and stability to the Western Balkans.
The interlocutors, among other things, discussed the excellent bilateral cooperation between North Macedonia and the United Kingdom and the opportunities to strengthen cooperation between the two countries and to provide further British support in several areas and forms.
