President Pendarovski meets with the German Director for SEE, Turkey and EFTA States, Susanne Schutz

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today Susanne Schutz, Director for South-East Europe, Turkey and EFTA States, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Germany and concluded that they are characterized by sincere friendship, mutual respect and understanding. In this context, the interlocutors reaffirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening, expanding and promoting cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, especially in the economic sphere in which the two countries mark intensive cooperation.

President Pendarovski expressed satisfaction with Germany’s significant contribution to our European and Euro-Atlantic path, expressed through their open, strong and principled commitment to making a decision on the start of accession negotiations for our membership in the European Union.

The President noted that the country has shown high democratic capacity and political maturity in the past period, through the implementation of important reform processes as well as through the promotion of good neighborly relations, in order to ensure stability and lasting security in the region. In this context, having in mind that our European friends recognize and value it, he expressed confidence that North Macedonia will soon receive the long-awaited date for the start of negotiations.

The interlocutors exchanged views and information on the challenges arising from the refugee and migrant crisis. President Pendarovski said that North Macedonia is constantly monitoring the situation and taking measures and activities to successfully deal with the crisis.
