The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.
At the meeting, they exchanged views on the possibilities for cooperation between the two countries, following the establishment of diplomatic relations in August 2019. President Pendarovski stressed that the Republic of North Macedonia is ready to develop cooperation with the Republic of Cyprus in all areas of mutual interest, including economic cooperation, trade exchange and investment. In this context, President Pendarovski expressed his hope for diplomatic representation between the two countries at ambassadorial level soon.
Regarding the aspirations of North Macedonia for EU membership, President Pendarovski reaffirmed the expectation that the new methodology for conducting accession negotiations would soon be adopted and a date would be set for the start of accession negotiations with the Union. According to President Pendarovski, such a decision will make a significant contribution to strengthening the stability and prosperity of the region, as well as of the European Union itself.
President Pendarovski said at the meeting that the country continues to work on meeting its strategic goals, as well as on implementing its domestic reform agenda. Opinions and information were exchanged at the meeting on the current situation in the region, including the threat of illegal migration.
