The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jean Asselborn.

At the meeting, they exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations between the two countries which were assessed as friendly, with a shared commitment to further boost the cooperation. Luxembourg, President Pendarovski assessed at the meeting, is our valued partner in the context of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration. North Macedonia, was underlined at the meeting, highly appreciates the strong support from Luxembourg and the active role of Minister Asselborn regarding the launching of the accession negotiations with the European Union and the ratification of the NATO Accession Protocol for our country’s membership in July last year.

President Pendarovski reaffirmed the expectation that the new methodology for conducting accession negotiations and setting a start date would be adopted soon.

At the meeting, President Pendarovski also expressed gratitude for the technical assistance from Luxembourg aimed at strengthening the administrative capacity of North Macedonia in the context of the European integration. In the context of the further deepening of bilateral cooperation, the meeting highlighted the need to strengthen economic cooperation and increase trade between the two countries. President Pendarovski pointed to North Macedonia’s interest in direct investment by Luxembourg companies.

The meeting exchanged views on the current situation in the region, including the challenges related to illegal migration.
