President Stevo Pendarovski received today Robert Spano, President of the European Court of Human Rights, who is paying a visit to the Republic of North Macedonia.
At the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the ongoing reform processes in the judiciary and the cooperation with the Court.
President Pendarovski expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the judicial institutions in North Macedonia and the European Court of Human Rights. In that regard, President Pendarovski stressed that our country has signed Protocol 16 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which, after its ratification in the Assembly, will enable direct cooperation between the highest courts in North Macedonia and the European Court of Human Rights.
President Pendarovski stressed that the European Commission in its latest Progress Report on North Macedonia positively assessed our country’s progress in judicial reform and in adopting reform strategies that will strengthen the independence of the judiciary.
At the meeting, President Pendarovski underlined that North Macedonia remains committed to the proper implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and especially the timely execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.
