The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, received today the President of the National Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Austria, Wolfgang Sobotka.

The meeting exchanged views on the overall bilateral relations between North Macedonia and Austria, where it was assessed that the two countries foster excellent bilateral relations in many areas of mutual interest.

President Pendarovski voiced expectation for further intensification of the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, as an important aspect in strengthening the interstate cooperation.

At the meeting, President Pendarovski stressed the importance of the strong, unconditional and principled Austrian support for the European perspective of North Macedonia and the region. In this context, President Pendarovski expressed the expectation that soon after the adoption of the new methodology for conducting accession negotiations, a date will be set for the start of accession negotiations for EU membership, which is in the interest of the stability of the region and the European Union.

President Pendarovski and the President of the National Council of the Austrian Parliament, Sobotka, exchanged views and information on the latest developments in the region, as well as on the challenges arising from illegal migration.
