The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, held a bilateral meeting in Brussels today with the Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.
At the meeting, the Republic of North Macedonia once again received a strong recognition for the work done by the Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Federica Mogherini stressed that she remains firmly on the view that North Macedonia should get a date to start negotiations in the period June – July together with Albania. She said she would recommend that to all EU foreign ministers over the next week.
The meeting said that good news is coming from the region and the Prespa Agreement and the Agreement with Bulgaria are examples that difficult issues can be closed with brave decisions.
The Republic of North Macedonia is the only one in the region that has closed all issues with the neighbors, in which the institutions function, and in which there is determination and will and work is being done on the fulfillment of the reform processes.
President Pendarovski said that the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia, due to everything done and deserved, expect our country to get a date for the start of negotiations with the European Union. This, he said, will be of importance for the stability of the region.
As President of the Republic of North Macedonia, he urged the leaders of the member states of the European Union to preserve the credibility of the enlargement, based on clear and just criteria for membership, in accordance with the individual merits and achievements of each country in the region.
