President Stevo Pendarovski, during his working visit to the Republic of Turkey, met today with the Vice President of the European Commission and High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the current situation related to the European aspirations of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as on the progress in key areas.
President Pendarovski reaffirmed the expectation that the European Union would valorize the country’s overall efforts and take a step towards the start of accession negotiations, in the interest of stability, security and prosperity of the entire region. In the light of the latest development of bilateral relations between the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, the two interlocutors also discussed the relations between the two countries, referring to the efforts of the Portuguese EU Presidency and opportunities to overcome open issues ahead of the forthcoming General Affairs Council of the Union.
