President Stevo Pendarovski is the patron of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Macedonian poet Aco Shopov, which will be marked with a series of events during 2023.
The celebration of the great jubilee – 100 years since the birth of the mastermind of modern Macedonian literature and culture, Aco Shopov, is in cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – UNESCO, which, on the initiative of the Republic of North Macedonia, supported the year in honor of Aco Shopov and participated in the celebration of the jubilee.
The program to celebrate the centenary of Aco Shopov’s birth encompases numerous cultural and educational contents throughout the year: a multimedia art exhibition, a tribute to Shopov within the Flipbook film festival, lectures and literature classes dedicated to Shopov’s work, international honoring within the framework of the Struga Poetry Evenings, a gala performance, promotion of his books, publications as well as scientific gatherings in his honor.
The beginning of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shopov, one of the founders of Macedonian contemporary literature, will be marked this month with the publication in English of a selection of poetry in the leading international literary magazine Asymptote. The songs are also published in Macedonian, and one of them can be heard interpreted by the Macedonian actor Nikola Ristanovski.
Moreover, on 23 January, the Third Winter School of the International Seminar on Macedonian Language, Literature and Culture will be held at the “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje, which will be dedicated to the jubilee as well.
As part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary, and on the occasion of the World Poetry Day – 21 March, an international symposium in honor of Aco Shopov, a poetic performance and an exhibition will be held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
