President Stevo Pendarovski received today the annual laureate of the Struga Poetry Evenings, academician Vlada Urosevic, the Director of the Struga Poetry Evenings, Todorce Tasevski, the President of the Festival’s Management Board, Elizabeta Sheleva, the winner of the Miladinovci Brothers award, Dimitar Basheski, and the winner of the UNESCO “Bridges of Struga” award for a debut book, Gavin Bradley.
Congratulating Urosević on the “Golden Wreath” award, the President said that it is a special pride for him that this year, one of the most famous Macedonian literary and cultural giants, is the bearer of this most significant international recognition in the world of poetry.
The debut work of Vlada Urosević is the collection of poems “Eden drug grad” in 1959. In addition to several dozens of poetic works, he also wrote prose, i.e. novels, collections of short stories, essays and reviews. Part of Vlada Urosevic’s poetry has been translated into Serbian, Slovenian, Bulgarian, French, Russian, Spanish, Italian and English. Urosević is also the author of a number of translations of French poetry.
At the meeting, the President congratulated the organization of another successful edition of the festival, emphasizing that the Struga Poetry Evenings is a triumph of the Macedonian culture and tradition, which simultaneously enrich the world’s cultural space, and that our country is proud to host one of the oldest poetry festivals with a worldwide recognizable identity. At the meeting, the President congratulated the poets for the prizes they won, evaluating them as recognition for their poetic and literary activity.
