President Pendarovski signs the decrees for the proclamation of three laws on social reform

The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, signed the decrees of the Law on Social Protection, the Law on Social Security for the Elderly and the Law Amending the Law on Child Protection.

The implementation of the three laws is of vital interest for the citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia, especially for the most vulnerable categories of citizens, in the function of providing social justice and security.

The Law on Social Protection improves the social services delivered to end-users and the effectiveness and efficiency of cash benefits in view of ensuring greater equality in society. The Law promotes rights and provides better conditions for persons with disabilities. The allowance for a part-time salary for a parent caring for a child with a disability shall be increases and will reach up to 50% of the average net salary. The law harmonizes the national with the European legislation.

The Law on Social Security for the Elderly increases the effectiveness of the cash benefits for this category of citizens and reduces the percentage of poverty among the elderly over 65 years of age.

With the amendments to the Law on Child Protection, the access to the right to child allowance for children from low-income households and families and recipients of guaranteed minimum assistance is increased. The right to education allowance for school children from low-income families and children of recipients of guaranteed minimum assistance is introduced. These measures are in function of reducing child poverty. Child allowance, instead of 3,200 children, will be used by 73,500 children, while the education allowance, instead of 3,800 children, will be used by 64,316 children.
