As part of the official visit to the Czech Republic, President Stevo Pendarovski visited today the headquarters of Radio Free Europe in Prague.
On that occasion, President Pendarovski visited the newsrooms for the Balkans, Russia and Ukraine and expressed his support for their work. At the same time, President Pendarovski met and talked with the Acting President of RFE, Jeffrey Gedmin, as well as with media representatives from different regions and countries where Radio Free Europe broadcasts news and information.
At the meeting, President Pendarovski discussed the situation regarding the freedom of speech, the working conditions of journalists and the perspectives of journalism as a profession. In that direction, President Pendarovski emphasized that the media should and must continue to be loud criticizers and demand responsibility from decision-makers, when this is necessary, because only in this way will they contribute to greater freedom of the media and increase the transparency of the institutions on the other hand.
Radio Free Europe is present in 23 countries in the world, including North Macedonia.
