As the patron of the Ohrid Swimming Marathon, President Pendarovski welcomed the swimmers of the 36th marathon at the finish line today.
In the men’s competition this year, Alessio Occipinti from Italy was the first to reach the finish line. He swam the 25-kilometer race in 4 hours, 53 minutes and 14 seconds, setting a new record for the Ohrid Marathon after seven years.
Caroline Jouisse from France is the winner in the women’s competition. He swam from St. Naum to the quay of Ohrid for 5 hours, 5 minutes and 59 seconds.
Pointing out that all 15 participants contribute to the affirmation of the Ohrid Swimming Marathon, President Pendarovski congratulated the swimmers for the successfully completed race and wished them many more successful swimming challenges.
The Ohrid Marathon is organized by the Municipality of Ohrid and the National Swimming Federation of the Republic of North Macedonia. This year the marathon started from the St. Naum monastery complex, and ended in the center of Ohrid. The “Klime Savin” swimming race is 25 kilometers long. The first official marathon in Ohrid was held in 1962 on the Peshtani – Struga – Ohrid route.
