President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova received today, in Villa Biljana in Ohrid, Miguel Angel Moratinos, Deputy Secretary General of the UN and high representative of the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
At the meeting with Moratinos, who is also former head of Spanish diplomacy who was involved in the enlargement process, consent was expressed that the process of Macedonian European integration should be within the framework of the Copenhagen criteria and the basic documents of the EU, not on bilateral and historical issues.
The interlocutors agreed that it is high time for the Macedonian citizens to become part of the European family and for the EU to integrate the Western Balkans into its ranks, thereby gaining stronger support and increased influence in the multipolar world.
The meeting also discussed the importance of promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue as a tool for preventing conflicts and encouraging social cohesion, with President Siljanovska Davkova emphasizing the commitment of our country to multilateralism, as well as to the work of the Alliance of Civilizations, promoting regional stability.
The interlocutors exchanged opinions and information on the goals of the Alliance of Civilizations through the implementation of policies that promote social cohesion and cultural inclusiveness, including educational programs, cultural exchanges for public diplomacy, aimed at building tolerance and respect.
President Siljanovska Davkova pointed to the potential of youth forums, exchange programs and leadership training as a means to foster intercultural respect and understanding, emphasizing the role of digital diplomacy.
Miguel Angel Moratinos, the Deputy Secretary General of the UN and high representative of the Alliance of Civilizations of the UN is staying in our country, on the occasion of his participation in the Cultural Diplomacy Forum, organized by the School for Young Leaders, under the auspices of the former president, Gjorge Ivanov, who also attended the meeting.
