President Stevo Pendarovski meets with David Moran, COP26 Regional Ambassador

President Stevo Pendarovski received today David Moran, COP26 Regional Ambassador for Europe, Central Asia, Turkey and Iran.

The meeting discussed the long-term strategy of the Republic of North Macedonia for climate action, in order to prevent existing risks and create solutions to mitigate the negative consequences of climate change, as well as measures that are integrated into national policies.

President Pendarovski pointed out that the country is drafting the Fourth National Climate Change Plan, reaffirmed the readiness and commitment to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement and the commitments undertaken at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26), held in Glasgow.

It was stressed at the meeting that it is necessary to continue taking measures in the fight against climate change, as an important component of the Sustainable Development Goals of North Macedonia and in accordance with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to which the country is a signatory.

“We remain committed to creating policies for a sustainable and safe environment, raising public awareness and strengthening institutional capacity to mitigate and adapt to climate change”, President Pendarovski said at the meeting with Ambassador Moran, noting that environmental policies are in the focus of MKD2030 Development Framework, which is being drafted on the initiative of the President.

Through an integrated and harmonized approach of the competent institutions, North Macedonia remains committed to enhancing cooperation with the United Nations, in order to effectively address climate change and proactive climate action policies.
