The Wife of the President, Elizabeta Gjorgievska, participated in the event “Educate, Engage, Emancipate: Panel Discussion on Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention” which was held in Europe House, Skopje.
Speaking about adolescent pregnancy and aspects of its prevention, the President’s Wife said that it is a matter of intertwining many moments that lead to adolescent pregnancy. According to her, there are several aspects that should be taken into account in prevention, first of all, education is important, which should be carried out from an early age for girls and boys, and one of the more important aspects is the influence of the family, i.e. parents’ influence. Hence, Ms. Gjorgievska said that communication between parents and children is necessary when it comes to such sensitive topics.
The President’s Wife emphasized the psychological moment, as well as the awareness of adolescents about bodily autonomy and respect for their rights.
The EU Ambassador, David Geer, addressed the panel discussion, expressing his views, as well as Dr. Goran Dimitrov, Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Faculty of Medicine in Skopje and President of the Macedonian Medical Association; Elizabeta Bozinoska, Program Director of HERA; Jovanka Brajovic Grigorijevic, UNFPA Representative; Aziza Sali from the Women’s Rights Initiative of Shuto Orizari and Dr. Ivana Nakov, primary care gynecologist at Manolevi Polyclinic.
The panel discussion was attended by representatives from the Club of Young Doctors, the Association of Trainees and Young Doctors, the Association of Medical Students, HERA Youth.
The panel discussion is a continuation of the successful series of debates on health topics, implemented with the support of the Wife of the President and the EU Ambassador David Geer, in cooperation with the Club of Young Doctors.
