Today, President Stevo Pendarovski received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Portuguese Republic, João Gomes Cravinho, who is visiting the Republic of North Macedonia.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged regarding the possibilities for improving the bilateral relations of the two countries, in the context of the European integration process of North Macedonia, advancing the legal framework and strengthening the economic cooperation, and at the same time, the expectation that the cooperation in defense will be further intensified in the framework of NATO.
In the conversation, President Pendarovski expressed gratitude for the strong support from Portugal in fulfilling our European agenda and pointed out that the recent holding of the Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels marks a new chapter in the European integration process, which is of great importance for North Macedonia. In that context, President Pendarovski pointed out that the country is intensively preparing for the screening process, which begins in September and is expected to give an overview of the readiness and compliance of the Macedonian and European legislation.
The interlocutors agreed that the opening of accession negotiations of North Macedonia and Albania is of essential importance in the current geopolitical and security circumstances and dealing with the impacts of the Russian aggression on Ukraine.
