President Stevo Pendarovski received today the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Bogdan Aurescu, who is paying a working visit to North Macedonia.
At the meeting, opinions were exchanged on the overall bilateral relations, which are characterized by a constructive and open political dialogue, based on friendship and mutual respect. President Pendarovski expressed confidence for their further advancement, both politically and economically.
The President thanked for the strong Romanian support for the Macedonian European file, as well as for the intensification of the European integration process of the countries in the region. He stressed that North Macedonia remains committed to achieving this strategic goal, despite the challenges.
At the meeting, President Pendarovski stressed that especially today it is evident that EU enlargement to the Western Balkans is a security priority for Europe, and the completion of the European project is key to ensuring long-term peace and prosperity for the continent.
Congratulating the 15th anniversary of Romania’s membership in the European Union, President Pendarovski said that the country is an example of the transformative power that membership in the Union brings.
President Pendarovski and Minister Aurescu discussed the developments in the wider region, in relation to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the security implications for the wider neighborhood.
As NATO members, the two countries demonstrate unity and mutual cooperation, especially in light of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine.
President Pendarovski thanked Romania for its assistance in the evacuation of Macedonian citizens from Ukraine and acknowledged Romania’s commitment to caring for the large number of refugees.
