President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova met with Mark Cools, President of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in Venice.
As one of the most important bodies of the Council of Europe, which unites local authorities from 46 member states, the Congress is aimed at strengthening local self-government and democracy.
The meeting discussed the cooperation of the Congress with our country and the projects implemented so far.
As a long-standing member of the Group of Independent Experts and its Vice-President for two terms, Siljanovska-Davkova agreed with Cools that we live in a time that requires engagement in strengthening local self-government and democracy in the member states of the Council of Europe. It was pointed out at the meeting that the development of democracy at the central level is impossible without the development of democracy at the local level.
