The Wife of the President, Elizabeta Gjorgievska, attended and addressed an event marking November 14 – World Diabetes Day, which was held at the Multimedia Center “Mala stanica” in Skopje.
The event that took place under the global motto “Education for protection of the future” is organized by the Association for Childhood Diabetes of Macedonia – BALANCE MK and aims to convey a message aimed at intensifying and comprehensiveness of education and awareness regarding diabetes.
Within the framework of the event, a children’s creative workshop was held, where the children, together with two psychologist trainers in Gestalt Art Therapy using various techniques, created a large poster and conveyed the message about the need and access to education about this disease. The educational and information portal “Insulin Gate” was also promoted at the event.
In her address, the Wife of the President said that institutional cooperation and creation of a space in which relevant information will be placed are the main source for raising public awareness about childhood diabetes in our country. Gjorgievska made an appeal to all relevant institutions to listen and respond to the needs and challenges of children with diabetes and their parents, not only because of the solidarity that is needed, but also because of the obligation and duty that those institutions have towards each of our citizens.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am honored to be with you and your children today to mark together this important day, November 14, World Diabetes Day. At the beginning, I want to stress that you have my full support in your commitment to public speaking, continuous education, quality management and prevention of diabetes.
The necessary search for answers supported by quality and relevant education leads to objective understanding and clarification of the dilemmas and fears we have about our own health and the health of our loved ones. Facing challenges in this way is extremely important when it comes to a condition that a person has to live with, as in the case of diabetes. In this context, the motto for the global marking of the World Diabetes Day is “Education for protection of the future”, which, in addition to the successful prevention of diabetes and its consequences, also aims to establish standards that guarantee a quality life for every person with diabetes.
I believe that each of us, starting from our own experiences, came to the conclusion that constant education, acquisition of reliable and comprehensive information, are the essential way that guarantees quality handling of any problem. It is true when it comes to diabetes. Regardless of whether we are talking about children with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, it is imperative that this type of education is a continuous priority, both for themselves, for their parents, but also for the system, i.e. the institutions that are involved in health care of the children, and even for those who take care of their upbringing and education. Institutional cooperation and creation of a space in which relevant information will be placed are the main source for raising public awareness about childhood diabetes in our country. In this context, I believe that the educational and informational portal “Insulin Gate” will succeed in creating this space.
In the end, let me express my personal support and respect for your efforts and your noble fight for a healthy and carefree life for children with diabetes. The path of constant education may be arduous, but it is most certainly the right one that leads to success. Of course, I would like to once again appeal from this place to all relevant institutions to listen and respond to the needs and challenges of children with diabetes and their parents, not only because of the solidarity that is needed, but also because of the obligation and duty that they institutions have towards each of our citizens.
